Our big day coming up!

We will be celebrating our 7th Anniversary on 18th

We will be celebrating our 7th Anniversary on 18th August with a private party. Invited friends and guests will be treated with complimentary booze and food, as well as special tasting of Swiss Santis Malt Whisky, guided by distillery representative Detlef Sommer. On top of that, there will be a special 50% discount on every second 2cl pour during the party!

“7” is a very special number. It represents “Completeness” in many religions, both Eastern and Western. It also symbolises a “cycle” (轮回), ending of one and beginning of another, in an endless loop.

“7”is also a lucky number, hence the saying “Lucky 7”! The Writing Club has been very lucky to have the unwavering support of our friends and customers for the past 7 years to have come this far.

The theme of the label design this year is the “Big Dipper” (北斗七星), which is a large asterism formed by 7 bright stars, and it is a useful tool for navigation. The design symbolises The Writing Club taking bearing and setting course for the second “cycle” of our business!

Interesting fact: Ancient Chinese named this asterism after the ladle used for scooping alcohol (酒斗), due to the shape formed by the stars.

Finally, it is here! 40 years old Dailuaine, matur

Finally, it is here! 40 years old Dailuaine, matured fully in a sherry butt, yielding 297 bottles, at 54% ABV. Limited bottles made it to our shore and we opened one in The Writing Club, serving by the dram!

Glenkinchie is a Lowland distillery that produces

Glenkinchie is a Lowland distillery that produces single malt whisky, often known as Edinburgh Malt. Before 1998, the distillery produced whisky for blending, and occasionally sold their casks to independent bottlers to bottle as single malt whisky.

Here we have a 1987, bottled by Signatory Vintage under their Cask Strength Collection (56.6%). After spending 21 years in a Hogshead, the floral and citrusy distillate acquired additional flavour such as butterscotch, cinnamon as well as sweet oak on the nose and palate. The finish is delicate but long, with candy, oak and dark chocolate.

We cannot describe it well enough to justify how great it is, after we opened and taste it. We can only say that it is a very different Port Ellen from those we tasted so far, and we ranked it the second best we have tasted.
